The peace – loving, breathtaking country of Costa Rica is an ecological museum and an outdoor adventurer’s paradise. From Volcanoes to waterfalls, from cloud forests to spectacular beaches, Costa Rica offers every imaginable wonder and activity.
It is a safe, beautiful country, with friendly people, fresh and invigorating climate and one of the best healthcare systems in the world.

The colony is nestled on the Rolling Hills surrounding Lake Arenal. This is one of the most beautiful areas of Costa Rica. The Colony unfolds on a 40,000 sq meter property. Exotic trees with twisting vines, a large variety of plants and flowers, Philodendrons, Heliconias, and Orchids cover the grounds, enchanting everyone with their color and fragrance. Monkeys, butterflies and birds, call this place home.
Everywhere you turn, you are surrounded by breathtaking beauty and the magnificent views of Lake Arenal.
Approximately 45 minutes away from Conceptos Artisticos’ location, lays the Quintessential Volcano Arenal. Although the volcano is active, it is not dangerous. The volcano is most impressive at night, when bursts of fire shoot into the sky and snakes of lava cascade down the slopes.
The town of Tilaran – 30 minutes away, the village of Nuevo Arenal – 5 minutes distance, as well as the town of La Fortuna – 30 minutes away in the opposite direction can enrich your shopping experience. There are a multitude of resorts, restaurants, bars, clubs, stores, and a picturesque Swiss village near by.
National parks and reserves, rainforest canopy tours, strolls along the lake, boating, fishing, swimming, and windsurfing – can occupy your spear time. You can lay in the rustic thermal pools of different temperatures, nestled under the jungle’s canopy, you can find inspiration watching the spectacular sunsets on the lake, or listen to the murmur of the waterfalls, the choice is yours!
HOUSING:

The program provides housing, studio and administration.
The accommodations are offered in rustic cottages.
Each cottage consists of two single occupancy bedrooms, living room, full kitchen, bathroom and a small porch.
Every cottage has a view of the lake.
We regret to inform you that there is no wheelchair accessibility.
The facilities are charming, but basic.
If necessary accommodations for spouses, children, guests or pets can be made.
This is a DRUG – FREE environment.
Smoking is permitted outdoors only.
OTHER SERVICES:
Laundry facilities on the premises are free of charge.
Each cottage is equipped with tv/satellite/vcr.
Telephone – on the premises. (Note: For international calls, a calling card is required).
Fax machines, copy machines, computer/internet on the premises. (Note: A small fee may be required).
Towels and linens provided weekly – free of charge.
Cleaning services provided weekly – free of charge.
Grocery shopping runs provided weekly – free of charge.
(Note: You can buy a variety of organic produce from the local farmers, or you can shop in the stores, located 5 minutes away in the nearby village).
Car rentals can be arranged.
Transportation from and to the airport can be arranged.
Day or weekend trips can be arranged.
The artists are occasionally invited to attend dinners or bonfire dinners – by their hosts.**
Occasionally boat trips on the lake – some free of charge – are offered during the residency period.
Any weekend trips to any location
within Costa Rica can be arranged.
ELIGIBILITY:
National and international – established or emerging artists – with a record of solid achievement.
MEDIA:
Sculpture, painting, drawing, mixed media.
PROGRAMMATIC EXPECTATIONS:
Artists are expected to be in residence for the entire duration of the residency session.
During their residency, the artists will be encouraged to create and complete at least one art project.
At the conclusion of the program, the artists will have the option to leave one of their completed art projects to the Conceptos Artisticos Program – for further exposure to art shows, art dealers and art promoters.
Upon the selling of their work – the artist will receive 50% of the selling price; if the piece does not sell, the artist will have the option of donating the piece to the Conceptos Artisticos Museum.

SELECTION PROCESS:
A jury presided by one of Conceptos Artisticos’ founder Mr. Mihai Docea and Mr. William Reimann will select the future participants.
The selection will be based on the professionalism and artistic capabilities of each applicant as revealed through resume and slides of prior work.
The residency fee is $400 U.S per month per artist.
Upon acceptance, you will be required to send a deposit fee equal to half – $200 U.S – of your residency program fee.
The balance of your residency fee is due one week prior to the starting date of your residency period.
The selected candidates will be notified one month prior to the commencement of their residency period – via e-mail or mail.
Residencies of a month, to extended stays will be considered.
Repeated residencies may be available.
The payment will be made in U.S currency or equivalent in Euro.
Please don’t send cash.
Only cashier’s check or international money orders accepted.
The selected artists will be informed of the residency period available to them.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
If you cancel your residency, we regret to inform you that the deposit fee cannot be reimbursed.
If possible, Conceptos Artisticos will try to make arrangements to reschedule your residency session.
ARTISTS’ RESPONSIBILITIES:
The artist is responsible for the payment of $400 U.S residency fee per month, per artist
Airfare
Their own health insurance
Their personal expenses while in Costa Rica
Any visa, consular fees, airport fees, ground transportation
Some work materials
Their own meals – Each person should plan for $170 U.S food cost per month
Meal preparation is the responsibility of the artist
